We are a cafe and bistro/bar located in the Bayview district of San Francisco, one of many businesses bringing a renewed sense of community to the Third Street commercial corridor. We have been open since October 2018 — first as a coffee shop, now as a full bar and restaurant with live music and other performances (check our events page).
Word has become THE PLACE for live music, great cocktails and a superlative SUNDAY BRUNCH. Our homemade biscuits, bread pudding and grilled meat sandwiches are among the best in the City. The rest of our menu is quite tasty, too, and we strive to provide wholesome food that is made from scratch and served like you are family (we are from the South, where hospitality is an art form).
Our menu changes regularly but we always feature fresh homemade Southern-style buttermilk biscuits, great coffee and espresso drinks, and innovative cocktails such as the Bayview Bomber and Champagne Mojito. We host regular live music performances, art shows, spoken word/poetry and comedy, as allowed under current COVID-19 regulations.
Your Word owners appreciate this community and all the creativity that it brings. We are friends, creatives, parents, writers, singers, cooks, food-lovers and just all-around curious people. We want to meet you and learn about you, too!
Word supports our local schools, the Bayview branch of the SF Public Library (across the street), community gardening, local artists and a lot of people with big ideas who just happen to walk in. Owners Kat Anderson (a born host with warmth and humor) and Carl Hall (your bartender and a longtime Bayview resident) invite you to visit our cafe.
